The short answer
A Medley mural project runs in stages: choose the image, measure and confirm the wall, order panels with trimming allowance, let them acclimate, prep and prime the wall, then hang the panels in sequence from a planned starting line. We handle the measuring, prep and installation.
Turning one wall of a Medley home into a single large image takes more planning than people expect. A wallpaper mural arrives as a stack of numbered panels that only make sense once they are on the wall in perfect order, edge meeting edge, with the picture continuing across every joint. Reliable Wallpaper Installer drives about seven miles from our base in Miami Gardens to install murals in Medley houses, apartments and the occasional office or showroom wall in town. Rather than a list of promises, this page walks through a mural project as a timeline, from the first conversation to the morning after installation, so you can see where each decision falls and what you need to have ready at each stage.
Stage one: choosing an image that fits the room
Start with the feeling you want. Landscapes and seascapes push the wall back and make small rooms feel deeper. Botanicals and jungle scenes bring color and movement. Maps, abstracts and architectural images suit offices and living rooms. For children, themes that can grow with them tend to stay welcome longer than characters.
Look at how the image will be cropped by furniture and openings. A low dresser covers the bottom third of the wall, and a window may remove a section in the middle. The best murals keep their main subject in the part of the wall that stays visible.
Stage two: measuring and confirming the wall
Accurate measurements are the foundation of every mural. We measure width and height at several points, since walls and ceilings in this area are often a little out of level, especially in older concrete block homes. Ordering to the largest measurement, plus the trimming allowance your mural maker recommends, protects against gaps at the edges.
We also record the position of outlets, switches, vents, thermostats and window trim, so you can preview how the image will interact with them before you commit to the order.
- Several width and height readings
- Locations of every interruption on the wall
- Recommended bleed added on each side
- Notes on the wall surface and any repairs needed
Stage three: ordering and acclimating the panels
Choose a material that suits the room. Non-woven panels are steady in changing humidity and come off in large sheets. Vinyl-faced panels handle wiping in kitchens and playrooms. Peel-and-stick panels can work on very smooth, primed walls in stable rooms, but they are less forgiving in South Florida's damp summer months.
When the box arrives, open it, check that every panel is present and undamaged, and lay the panels flat in the room for a day or two with the air conditioning running. That rest lets them adjust before hanging.
Stage four: wall preparation
A mural magnifies every defect. Patches, nail pops and rough texture show up as shadows in sky or solid areas. We repair holes, smooth texture, clean the surface and apply a wallpaper primer. If the wall carries old wallpaper, it is removed first. On plaster-over-block walls, cracks are filled and feathered so they do not telegraph through the image.
Prep often takes as long as the hanging itself, and on some walls longer. Joint compound needs to dry before sanding, and primer needs to dry before the first panel goes up. In the humid months, that drying can stretch, so we sometimes schedule prep on one visit and installation on the next. Splitting the work this way is not a delay for its own sake; it is what keeps a mural from bubbling a few weeks later.
Stage five: hanging day
We lay the panels out to confirm the order and the overlap, then strike a plumb line where the first panel will go, chosen so the image is centered where you want it. Each panel is aligned along its full height, smoothed carefully and checked against the previous one. Straight lines in the image, such as horizons and buildings, get the most scrutiny because the eye spots any step in them right away.
Bleed is trimmed at ceiling and baseboard, openings are cut neatly, and cover plates are reinstalled. Adhesive is wiped from trim as we work.
Stage six: the first few days
Keep the room air-conditioned while the adhesive cures and avoid pushing furniture tight against the wall for a day or two. If a storm or power outage leaves the room warm and humid, restore cool air as soon as possible. Murals also go up in Hialeah Gardens, Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Miami Springs and Opa-locka on our schedule.
